Featured in the Guiness Book of World Record as the longest-running non-musical play in US history, Stage 2 is launching Shear Madness this summer hoping to make it an annual tradition here in Wichita Falls. The show ran for 40 years in Boston and is still delighting audiences after over 37 years at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.

Set in the present day inside the bustling Shear Madness hair salon, this interactive comedy “whodunit” is packed with spontaneous, up-to-the-minute humor. When a murder is discovered, the audience becomes part of the action – spotting clues, interrogating suspects, and ultimately deciding who did it! With a different ending every night, many guest return again and again for more mayhem and mystery.

“Shear Madness” the record-breaking comedy whodunit is on its way to Wichita Falls. The award-winning show will open May 30th and run through July 26 at the Stage 2 Dinner Theatre.

Since launching the theatre in 2018, producers Dwayne and Lisa Jackson have been searching for a summer staple that will entertain people of all ages. “With the addition of Shear Madness we believe we’ve hit a home run for summer ’25” said the enthusiastic producers. Shear Madness has broken many longevity records around the world. The Boston production which ran for over 40 years is the longest running play in the history of the USA. The Washington DC production at the Kennedy Center is now in its 38th year. It ran in Chicago for 18 years and in Kansas City for 13. The Moliere Award-winning Paris production is in its 14th year, while Athens has racked up 13 years of performances and Seoul 11. There are currently 12 productions in China with the Shanghai company about to celebrate its 1,000th performance.
The Stage 2 Dinner Theatre production will be the newest member of the Shear Madness family.

Set today in Wichita Falls, the show is filled with up-to-the-minute local and national happenings. As the New York Times says “It’s as fresh as this morning’s headlines”. The action takes place in the Shear Madness hairstyling salon where the world-famous concert pianist who lives above the shop is murdered. Whodunit? The audience gets to spot the clues, question the suspects and catch the killer. It’s a sure-fire winner for everybody. And because it has a healthy dose of comic improv, it’s never the same show twice.

New York producers Marilyn Abrams and Bruce Jordan who developed the show from Paul Portner’s Swiss play Scherenschnitt and who hold the world-wide rights thought that Dwane and Lisa would be the perfect producers to watch over their baby and give it a great chance for success at Stage 2 Dinner Theatre.
