More than a century of gathering together. A whole new story, every time.
1908
The curtain rises.
The Wichita Falls Opera House opened on December 21, 1908, to a sold-out performance of His Honor, The Mayor. Funded by public subscription, it became the home of the Wichita Falls Opera Company.
The first directors were C. W. Bean, N. Henderson, J. L. Jackson, Frank Kell, J. A. Kemp, W. M. McGregor, and T. R. T. Orth. J. A. Kemp and Anderson Bean deeded the theatre for the opera house.
1939
A movie-palace chapter.
After an extensive renovation, the theatre reopened as a modern movie theatre. Look closely today and you can still find traces of the original opera-house windows, bricked into the building.
2003
Live stories return home.
The Wichita began a new chapter of Broadway-style family entertainment, bringing community casts and audiences together for live productions.
